President's Message
Welcome to the website of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Co-Op City Section!

As the President of the Co-op City Section for the 2024-2026 term, I am both honored and excited by the opportunity to serve and lead such an extraordinary group of women—strong, deeply rooted in culture, diverse in talents and abilities, yet united in our values, beliefs, and efforts.

Collectively, we stand on the shoulders of greatness. Together, we are grateful for the vision, dedication, perseverance, and work of our national founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, President Emeritus, Dr. Dorothy I. Height, our Section sponsors, Daisy George
and Maggie Alston, and our Section founders, Roberta Booze, Lillian

Dean, Jessie Profit, Dorothy Edwards, and Evelyn Garner. We are inspired by the leadership of all the past presidents and leaders of both our National Organization and local Co-op City Section who paved the way before us.
“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”

This quote speaks to the power of unity, strength and community support. We believe in the strength that comes from collaboration and the importance of partnerships that align with our mission, goals and principles. By working together, we can accomplish far more than any of us could alone. I encourage you to actively support our programs, events and membership participation. Every effort, no matter how small, contributes to the greater good of our community.
Our organization’s focus is on Economic Empowerment & Entrepreneurship, Education, Health Equity and Social Justice. We are committed to making a positive, meaningful and sustainable impact on the lives of those we serve and to leaving our community better than we found it. To preserve a better future for generations to come, we must continue to stand strong in our shared mission and vision.
I invite you to explore all that we do and learn more about our initiatives. If you are interested in becoming a member, partner or sponsor a community effort, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, using the contact page. For over 50 years, we have been providing valuable resources and services to our community, and we intend to continue doing so for many more years to come.
We are an intergenerational section of phenomenal women of diverse backgrounds, and we continue to grow year after year. We are proud of our Youth Group, which supports young women ages 9 to 18, and of our ongoing efforts to expand our reach through active membership growth and supportive partnerships.
I am truly encouraged by the diligence and support of our current Executive Board, Committee Chairs, Co-chairs and Section Members. I am empowered by the strength of my fellow sister section leaders, and I am excited for the work ahead. Together, we will continue to uplift our community and ensure that the legacy of our foremothers lives on.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will make a difference.

With gratitude and strength,

Lisa Wade-Stewart
